Sewer Department

The Village of Waterville sewer department takes pride in the level of service provided to their customers. Inspections of both sanitary and storm sewer installations along with the needed taps for new or existing homes are carried out by this department.  The sewer department is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 30 miles of sanitary sewer mains of various sizes and approximately 27 miles of storm sewer mains.  Included also are 4 sewage pump stations ranging in capacity from 200 gpm to 5000 gpm to handle the needs of a growing community.  The sewer department uses close circuit television equipment to inspect the sewer system to locate any problem areas. Routine cleaning of both the storm and sanitary system is handle by our Aquatech B-10 combination machine.  All of the sewer department resources and personal are available 24hr/day 365 days a year at no charge, to provide help and assistance should a customer have a sewer related problem.

Water Department

The Water Department is responsible for the maintenance of the village's water system and serves about 5,000 people. They test the water, repair waterlines, read meters, and inspect new water taps.  The Water Department performs hydrant flushing yearly to maintain good water flow and reduce discoloration.  They also maintain the three water towers in the village, which are inspected every four years and repairs made as needed.  A telemetry system is used to manage water tower levels and alert staff if problems arise.

Street Department

The Village of Waterville Street Department is responsible for street sweeping, road repairs, crack and joint sealing, and street stripping.  Traffic signals and signs are maintained.  The street department is in charge of leaf pickup, sidewalk installation, and sidewalk repairs.  The Village of Waterville is responsible for removing snow and salting village streets during inclement weather.  Citizens safety is important and all measures are taken to keep the streets clear.

Building & Grounds

The Village of Waterville Buildings and Grounds Department is composed of one Supervisor, two full-time technicians and one shared full-time technician.  Two full-time seasonal workers are added in the summer months to help with mowing and Parks maintenance.

The B&G department has responsibility for grounds and building maintenance on all Village owned property.  This includes seven parks with approximately 45 acres of land, five buildings, over a mile of bike/walking path, numerous playground equipment items, three tennis courts, two basketball courts and a roller blade court.  We also maintain the Municipal/Police building, the Chamber of Commerce building and the Public Works garage.

The B&G department also has responsibility for all trees on Village property; this includes the street right of way as well as parks and other property.  Maintenance includes annual trimming, hazardous tree or limb removal and new plantings.  We work with the Waterville Tree Commission and have earned Tree City USA recognition for four years.

Other work includes street light maintenance in the downtown business district, preparing and installing the Christmas decorations and assisting the other departments when the need arises, this includes snow removal, leaf pickup, water main breaks and sewer work.

To aid us in our work we have four riding mowers with 51 to 72 inch cutting decks, a 65 hp tractor with blade, forklift, rake, aerator, broadcast spreader, box scraper, augers and chopper mower.  One of the riding mowers has attachments for snow removal and material moving capabilities.  Three snow throwers of various sizes help to maintain sidewalks in the winter and our 46-foot bucket truck is used for tree work and maintenance of outdoor lighting and buildings. Three pickup trucks and two trailers are used to move equipment around.
